Anjan Chakrabarty

Anjan Chakrabarty is currently a Research Engineer with the Advanced Control and Evolvable Systems (ACES) Group in the Intelligent Systems Division at NASA Ames Research Center (ARC). He is employed by SGT Inc. Prior to joining SGT, Anjan was a NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) Fellow.

Dr. Chakrabarty has worked on several UAV autonomy projects at ARC. He is currently working on NASA UAS Traffic Management (UTM)/SAFE50 autonomy technologies. UTM-TCL4 involve UAS operations in higher-density urban areas for tasks such as news gathering and package delivery, and large- scale contingency mitigation. He is responsible for developing autonomy architectures for UAS that can participate in UTM-TCL4. The simulation environment that he is developing will be used for UTM-TCL4 architecture.

He was the PI for DELIVER (Design Environment for Novel Vertical Lift Vehicles) Autonomy at Ames project, which investigates the effect of autonomy on the design of unmanned air vehicles (UAVs). He designed small UAVs for Search and Track applications. He has also implemented an adaptive controller on-board an UAV for manipulating tasks.

Dr. Chakrabarty did his PhD in Aerospace Engineering from The Pennsylvania State University. His doctoral dissertation focused on energy efficient flight path planning for UAVs. He was a member of the winning team of NASA Green Flight Challenge (GFC) held in 2011. The prize of $1.35Million prize to Team for winning GFC is the largest prize ever awarded in aviation. Dr. Chakrabarty was responsible for the flight path planning based on local wind field data using his PhD research.
