Deloitte Fast 50 Delegation Visit

On November 2, 2008, a select group of ten CEOs from companies in The Netherlands, on the list of this year’s Deloitte’s Fast 50, visited the Ames Intelligent Systems Division. The group was given talks and demonstrations related to NASA’s Robotic Space Exploration, demonstrating how NASA Ames, and the Intelligent Systems Division in particular, is supporting NASA’s exploration mission.

The agenda for the afternoon included:

  • The Phoenix mission and Science on Mars - Dr. Carol Stoker (NASA ARC)
  • K10 Robot Operational Readiness Test - Drs. Hans Utz (RIACS) and Matt Deans (NASA ARC)
  • Robotic Exploration of Mars with Spirit and Opportunity - Dr. Michael Sims (NASA ARC)
  • Seeing Like A Rover - Janet Vertesi (Cornell University)
  • 3D Visualization of Mars - Dr. Larry Edwards (NASA ARC)

Dr. Maarten Sierhuis was asked by the International Trade Director of the Netherlands Business Support Office, an office of the Dutch government in San Mateo, to host a delegation of CEOs from this year’s Deloitte Fast 50. Deloitte’s Technology Fast 50 is a listing of the 50 fastest growing technology companies in a given geographic area, in this case the Netherlands. The Dutch arm of the financial services giant Deloitte sponsors the contest. To be eligible, a company must be a technology firm at least five years old with a strong research-and-development base, and must have its headquarters in the Netherlands. The company also must have a growth rate of at least 400 percent over the last five years.
