Nikunj Oza Gives Invited Talk at Kaiser Permanente's Machine Learning Day

Nikunj Oza, Leader of the Intelligent Systems Division Data Sciences Group, was invited to speak at Kaiser Permanente’s Oakland facility on November 6th as part of their “Machine Learning Day.” Nikunj and several algorithm and tool developers were invited to discuss their use of machine learning and data mining methods and tools. This came about after Kaiser’s visit to the Intelligent Systems (TI) and Human Systems Integration (TH) Divisions on September 10th for a technical interchange meeting. Nikunj and Taposh Roy, who is one of Kaiser’s data mining team members in Oakland, will work to identify possible collaborations, which are likely to revolve around NASA’s data mining on Earth science data. NASA’s data mining on Earth science data is used to inform Kaiser’s investigations into the impact of pollution on human health, as well as the relationships between astronaut health and general human health.

BACKGROUND: Kaiser Permanente has recently been developing a “big data” effort. As part of this, they have been visiting various organizations to learn how they utilize big data and other information technologies. Kaiser Permanente’s visit to NASA’s Intelligent Systems (TI) and Human Systems Integration (TH) Divisions on September 10th was part of this plan. Taposh Roy (Kaiser) and Nikunj Oza (NASA Code TI) discussed various tools that could be mutually useful after this visit. Mr. Roy invited Nikunj to speak at Kasier’s Machine Learning Day.
