Dr. Wendy Okolo, System-Wide Safety (SWS) Associate Project Manager, will present “Transforming the National Airspace: A UAS Safety Perspective” at the Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) West Symposium on August 12, 2021.

BACKGROUND: The UAS West Symposium is an interactive, virtual event spanning three days that features Department of Defense (DoD), industry, and government leaders. Topics including technology, testing, evaluation, capabilities, and other UAS-related interests that will be explored by industry experts.

The System Wide Safety (SWS) project is part of the Airspace Operations and Safety Program (AOSP) within NASA’s Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate (ARMD). Created in 2018, SWS performs high-risk research and development and is focused on exploring, discovering, and understanding the impact on safety from technical advancements in aviation and any associated emerging operations. By identifying the largest technical barriers to safety, SWS supports transformation of the National Air Space (NAS), enabling safe integration of emerging, unpiloted aircraft in urban and rural environments.
