Dr. Portia Banerjee Presents at IEEE International Conference on Prognostics & Health Management

Dr. Portia Banerjee, System Wide Safety (SWS) and Diagnostics & Prognostics group researcher, presented a tutorial at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) International Conference on Prognostics and Health Management in June 2021. The tutorial was entitled, “In-Time Safety Assessment and Risk Prediction for Unmanned Aerial Systems.” The presentation addressed implementing diagnostic and prognostic tools to predict risks for Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), as well as the process of monitoring, assessing, and mitigating risks in more general applications.

BACKGROUND: The System Wide Safety (SWS) project performs high-risk research and development and is focused on exploring, discovering, and understanding impacts from technical advancements in aviation and associated emerging operations on safety. To improve the efficiency of flight, access to airspace, and expansion of aviation services, SWS supports the transformation of the National Airspace System (NAS) by identifying the largest technical barriers to safety.
