Jay Trimble Visits Astrobotic in Support of Their Commercial Lunar Lander Development

In March, Jay Trimble made a second trip to Astrobotic to support development of their mission operations and ground data systems plan for their commercial lunar lander. Jay is supporting Astrobotic as part of NASA’s Lunar Catalyst Program, in which NASA resources are made available to assist commercial space companies developing lunar landers. For Astrobotic, Jay is working with the company on their mission operations plan, their ground data system approach, their approach to mission operations reviews, and is acting as a mission operations consultant. Sarah Hobart and Mark Shirley are also providing support. Sarah is helping to review and comment on some documents, and Mark is providing inputs on Ground Data Systems (GDS) architecture.

BACKGROUND: Astrobotic’s Griffin Lander has flexible payload mounts that will accommodate a variety of rovers and other payloads to support robotic missions like skylight exploration, sample return, regional prospecting, and polar volatile characterization. Astrobotic’s Peregrine Lander will deliver payloads to lunar orbit and the lunar surface.
