George Gorospe Presents at the 2018 Northwest Earth and Space Sciences Pipeline Summer Summit for Educators

George Gorospe delivered an invited talk to start the second day of the Northwest Earth and Space Sciences Pipeline Summer Summit in Ellensburg, WA, which took place from June 25th - 29th, 2018, and was sponsored by the Washington State Space Grant Consortium and NASA. The goal of the summit was to expand NASA opportunities for Native American and Alaskan Native learners. George’s talk for the educators focused on lifelong learning and the rapid acquisition of new skills to solve multidisciplinary problems at NASA. George also covered methods for teaching robotics, programing, and algorithm development. As a Native American, George also highlighted NASA Ames’ own Native American Advisory Council and the education programs NASA has specifically for Native American students.

BACKGROUND: The Northwest Earth and Space Science Pipeline is funded though the NASA Science Mission Directorate and housed with the Washington NASA Space Grant Consortium at the University of Washington. The Northwest Earth and Space Science Pipeline serves as a “virtual NASA center” for the residents of the Pacific Northwest, giving students and teachers in the region access to innovative educational materials that engage student interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines.
