The Program Management Tool (PMT) is a comprehensive, web-enabled business intelligence application tool used to assist NASA enterprises in monitoring, disseminating, and tracking the progress of program and project milestones, their line-of-business processes, and their corresponding resources, such as personnel, task plans, monthly reports, and budgetary allocations. The tool is aimed at providing strategic Center and program management (PM) information to stakeholders and decision-makers. The tool is also intended to facilitate ease of use, track accountability, and ultimately improve communication between various NASA enterprises and end-users. The PMT tool is designed to be flexible and extensible by seamlessly integrating with current and next-generation strategic information systems.
PMT has given the NASA CFO the ability to develop an integrated Agency phasing plan and the ability to display the data at an overarching Agency level. The PMT team collected more than 1,900 phasing plans from all NASA Centers’ current systems and worked closely with the Mission Directorates to give them an opportunity to revise and approve the plans. The PMT Team also produced monthly plan-vs.-actual reports and shipped the data to the JSC Dashboard Team. The JSC Team provided a web-based dashboard with the ability to drill-down to the Center and project levels. The complete system was deployed in less than five months.
In April, 2009, the Ames Program Management Tool (PMT) Team and the Johnson Space Center (JSC) Dashboard Team received an Agency Honor Award for their joint group achievement in providing NASA with an Integrated Phasing Plan and Resource Monitoring System.
