MIDAS is a tool for rapidly developing 3-D models and simulations of human performance in complex operational environments, for example, modeling how an astronaut would use a new Space Shuttle interface. Apex provides autonomy services that allow MIDAS developers to create the underlying human performance models; procedures in Apex's PDL language are the foundational modeling tool. Apex is also used for developing the simulation of the operating environment. The Sherpa tool has proved a valuable visualization aid for understanding human performance. In the figure below, a portion of Sherpa's PERT chart capability shows how cognitive and other resources are used in an astronaut/Space Shuttle simulation.
