Dr. Jeremy Frank visited St. Paul's Child Development Center and talked about exploring Mars with kindergartners. The class talked about the planets, using both pictures on the classroom wall and a “huggable Mars.” The class also discussed how to explore other planets with rockets, robots, and people. Dr. Frank explained Rover operations, “When a Mars rover is driving towards a specific rock or interesting location, it drives forward a meter or so, then takes a picture, and corrects its course.” The class experimented with walking like a robot towards an interesting object (a NASA sticker) at the far end of a room, taking a few steps with their eyes closed, and then opening them and correcting their course.
Jeremy Frank is a NASA employee and parent of two children.
