The Integrated Modeling Development Environment (IMDE) was recently selected as the winner of a NASA Space Act Award. The award includes a $500 prize to the development team.
BACKGROUND: The Exploration Technology Development and Demonstration Program (ETDD) was a component of the Autonomous Systems and Avionics (ASA) project. The IMDE provides an interactive development environment similar in appearance to Eclipse for helping streamline development, testing, and validation of planning models used for automated planning of autonomous systems or embedded controllers. The unique features of the software include:
The IMDE catches modeling errors as the model is developed instead of the common practice of waiting until after development when bad assumptions can require a complete model rewrite.
The IMDE was developed to build an activity planning model for elements of the LADEE mission and employed by the LADEE wsim (release 3) as a test of the model validity.
