Dr. Jeremy Frank visited the University of Miami Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and gave a talk titled “Embedded Systems: A NASA Perspective.” The talk described NASA applications of embedded systems and embedded system functionality, including discrete control, fault detection isolation and recovery, and the need for middleware to integrate functional components of large embedded systems. He also gave a talk on the Autonomous Mission Operations (AMO) project, which he leads. With regard to AMO, he described the motivation for the project, the structure of the investigation, and he provided a perspective on how the experiments worked by touring the NASA Education and Public Outreach Facebook page.
