Dr. Jeremy Frank presented a summary of the Automation for Operations (A4O) project to the Mission Operations Preliminary Design Review (PDR) Checkpoint. This meeting was a two-day event (6/16–6/17) to describe the progress of the Constellation Mission Operations Project towards its PDR, which presently is scheduled for July 2010. Dr. Frank described the A4O project and contributions made by A4O to Constellation operations tools, as well as cross-program (ISS and Constellation) tool infusions.
BACKGROUND: The Automation for Operations (A4O) project is an ETDP-funded project with members from NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC), NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC), NASA Ames Research Center (ARC) and NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), as well as SRI, United Space Alliance (USA) and TRACLabs (a JSC contractor). The project develops trusted adjustable automation technology to advance the state of the art in mission operations, crew self-scheduling, robotic operations, and systems operations for lunar outpost and surface infrastructure operations.
